35 Years of Innovation in Mirandola: The Evolution of Medical Disposables from 1991 to 2026
In 2026, Sidam celebrates 35 years of excellence. Founded in January 1991 by Graziano Azzolini and Isabella Guidetti the company was born in the heart of Mirandola, Italy - one of the world’s leading biomedical hubs. The name Sidam itself - an acronym for the Development and Industrialization of Medical Devices and Equipment - reflected the founders' clear vision from the start: bridging the gap between design and production to meet evolving market needs.
Since its inception, Sidam has experienced steady growth, evolving from a manufacturer of radiology disposables into adiversified player now serving oncology, radiopharmacy, and intensive care sectors.
Operating in the Mirandola district for over three decades has allowed Sidam to consolidate specialized expertise in medical-grade plastic molding andextrusion.
Transitioning from a local specialist to a global company with a presence in 19 countries has not altered our core operating model. Our lean structure still ensures rapid response times and customized device development - capabilities that set us apart from large-scale multinationals.
Despite market expansion and strategic acquisitions, our focus remains firmly on manufacturing quality and providing direct support to healthcare facilities.
With the full implementation of the MDR, Sidam has invested heavily to ensure compliance with the latest European standards, reinforcing the technical foundation established in 1991. Today, we continue to prioritizeefficiency and specialized staff training.
ROOTS IN RADIOLOGY: WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
In the early 1990s, Sidam’s core business was strictly tied to radiology. The company built its reputation by specializing indisposable devicesfor the administration of contrast media in CT and MRI scans..
During this period, the company focused on supplying lines and kits to major multinationals, serving as a partner capable of managing tight material tolerances and the strict technical specifications required by automated imaging equipment.
Manufacturing tubing and connectors for radiology requires absolute sterility and high mechanical resistance to withstand the pressures of power injectors. Sidam’s ability to customize these sets based on specific client needs allowed us to transition from component supply to the design of complete kits, optimized for clinical workflows.
Today, radiology remains a cornerstone of our business, featuring solutions that have evolved alongsidediagnostic imaging innovationwhile maintaining the technical reliability built over 30 years.
SPECIALIZED EXPANSION: ONCOLOGY AND RADIOPHARMACY
Our entry into theoncology sector in 2015 marked a strategic shift: moving from a component supplier to a developer of complex systems for handling antineoplastic drugs..
The flagship of this line is the Click Locksystem, a "hybrid" device designed for maximum clinician safety. Through secure, Click Lock drastically reduces the risk of accidental exposure to cytotoxic drugswhile ensuring faster preparation times than traditional systems.
Simultaneously, Sidam has strengthened its role in radiopharmacy, a highly regulated field of nuclear medicine. Here, the company serves as a technological partner for equipment manufacturers, providing the tubing and sets essential for the synthesis and distribution of radiopharmaceuticals.
The entry into force of the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745) was a pivotal moment. Sidam chose a proactive approach, updating its processes and obtaining the necessary certifications for high-complexity devices.
This regulatory commitment allows us to stand as a reliable partner for international hospitals and distributors.
BEYOND STANDARD DISPOSABLES: INTENSIVE CARE AND CUSTOM SOLUTIONS
Sidam’s technological evolution is highly evident in the intensive care field.
In this sector, we have developed entirely proprietary and patented solutions, such as NutriVent: a multifunctional nasogastric catheter designed to improve safety and precision in monitoring mechanically ventilated patients.
This device measures esophageal and gastric pressures in an integrated way, providing clinicians with essential data to optimize respiratory support and reduce the risk of pulmonary complications..
Another pillar of our operations is our CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization)activity. Sidam partners with other companies and specialists to transform clinical ideas into finished, certified devices.
With state-of-the-art cleanrooms (ISO 7 and ISO 8) and a highly trained staff, we manage complex projects: from remote-managed infusion systems to innovative components for surgical Augmented Reality (AR) headsets.
Our capacity to act as a CMO or CDMO provides partners with the production efficiency of the Mirandola district and the support needed to navigate the entire validation and industrialization process, ensuring versatility and speed at every stage.
RESPONSIBILITY AND CLINICAL SUPPORT
At Sidam, sustainability is a concrete commitment: it translates into operational choices that prioritizesocial impact and clinical support continuity.
This commitment is reflected in our decision not to be mere product suppliers, but active partners for healthcare facilitiesOur product specialists work alongside healthcare professionals, providing on-the-field training and technical assistance, both in Italy and abroad.
A primary example of this vision is our long-standing collaboration withBambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome. Working with Dr. Luigi Dall'Oglio’steam, Sidam developed a specialized esophageal stent for children who have ingested caustic substances.
Despite being a rare pathology worldwide, we invested resources to create a device that drastically reduces the need for repeated surgeries under general anesthesia, significantly improving the quality of life for young patients.
This human-centric approach also led to the "Endy"project - an illustrated book designed to help children prepare for endoscopic procedures with less stress.
2026: A NEW CHAPTER OF GLOBALIZATION AND INNOVATION
Our 35th anniversary coincides with a significant international expansion phase. Today, Sidam technology is exported to over 19 countries through partnerships with local distributors and multinationals who view the Made in Mirandola label as a hallmark of technical reliability.
Looking ahead, Sidam will continue to invest in production efficiency and material research, maintaining the operational flexibility that has defined us since 1991.
Thirty-five years of history is more than a milestone; it is the solid technical foundation for our daily commitment to innovation and excellence in every clinical challenge.
